The museum is committed to a diverse workforce. We strive to promote an atmosphere of civility, mutual respect, and tolerance towards each other in an effort to protect and promote the intellectual, creative, and culture diversity that is essential to the success of a visual art institution. Such a commitment is essential to creating a vibrant museum staff composed of individuals with unique perspectives and backgrounds.

Internships

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art offers internships to individuals seeking valuable experience in their area of interest or study. Internship opportunities vary and go beyond the study of art history; firsthand experience ranges from clerical work to research and focused projects. Internships are typically unpaid, but students can arrange academic credit for their experience. During the summer, interns have the opportunity to participate in a Summer Salon, which includes activities such as presentations by staff, visits to local galleries, and the opportunity to give in-gallery talks.

Museum departments typically accepting interns are: Education, Imaging Services, Design, Marketing, and Curatorial. Students are responsible for their own transportation and housing arrangements.
